Appointment of Chairman

Bloomsbury Publishing Plc ("Bloomsbury") is delighted to announce the appointment of Sir Anthony Salz to the Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director who joins as Chairman of the Board. This follows the announcement on 23 July 2013 confirming the intention of Jeremy Wilson to retire from the Board after eight years as an Independent Non-executive Director including six as its Chairman.

Sir Anthony Salz is Executive Vice Chairman of Rothschild and a director of NM Rothschild & Sons Limited. He joined Rothschild in 2006 after 10 years as senior partner and over 30 years as a corporate lawyer with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He is Trustee of the Tate Foundation, the Royal Opera House, the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the Scott Trust, Reprieve, Chair of the Trustees for the Eden Trust and a member of the Board of the Media Standards Trust.

Sir Anthony Salz is a former Vice Chairman of the BBC Board of Governors and between 2010 and 2012 was lead Non-Executive member of the Board of the Department for Education. He headed the Salz Review, an independent external review of the business practices of Barclays Plc, which reported in 2013. He chaired the Independent Commission on Youth Crime and Antisocial Behaviour in England and Wales, which reported in 2010 and was a member of Business in the Community's committees on Homelessness and on Education.

Commenting on the new appointment Jeremy Wilson, retiring Chairman of Bloomsbury said, "I have greatly enjoyed my time at Bloomsbury and value my experience on the Board and as Bloomsbury's Chairman. I am delighted to be handing over leadership of the Board to Sir Anthony Salz who is joined by Bloomsbury's two newly appointed Independent Non-Executive Directors, Jill Jones and Stephen Page. Sir Anthony brings to Bloomsbury a wealth of commercial and foundation experience.

He adds considerable strength to the newly augmented Board of this unique company, founded over 26 years ago by its Chief Executive, Nigel Newton, as it continues to evolve and grow in a rapidly changing industry in the service of its shareholders, its authors and their readers, and of its staff."

There are no further details to disclose in accordance with Listing Rule LR9.6.13R. The appointment of Sir Anthony Salz follows a comprehensive search process using an independent search firm.
